Periodontal disease is an advanced bacterial infection that causes tooth loss and gum recession. If you have periodontal disease, it is essential to remove deposits from roots and teeth. Periodontal disease is almost always preceded by gingivitis. Inflammation is caused due to accumulation of excessive plaque and tartar below the gum line, thereby loosening the gum tissue and causing a pocket or gap between the tooth and the gum. Delay in identification of this inflammation and opting for treatment eventually will lead to tooth loss. To avoid this outcome, it is essential to undergo frequent periodontal maintenance which is different from the regular hygiene treatment offered at the dental clinic.
In order to control periodontal disease, our patients are suggested to go for a periodontal maintenance program for 3 -6 months which is a conservative approach to control periodontal disease. Untreated periodontal disease can lead to serious diseases like heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis etc.
