Fluoride treatment

Preventative Dentistry

Fluoride, whose benefits are well known for over 50 years is found to be an effective agent in maintaining good oral health. It is a natural mineral present in most foods and also in water, however if one does not get enough fluoride, then Fluoride treatment is a good option. Fluoride treatment is also recommended in case you are prone to developing cavities. It hardens the teeth enamel and makes it resistant to tooth decay or cavities. This treatment is done right in our Philadelphia office and is suitable for kids and adults alike.

Fluoride can be administered in two ways:

Topical Fluoride:

  • Applied directly on teeth
  • Reduces tooth decay process
  • Topical forms of Fluoride include: Toothpaste, Fluoridated mouth rinses, Fluoridated gels or Professional fluoride application.

Systemic Fluoride:

  • Systemic fluoride is delivered to the tooth surface through the bloodstream.
  • Your doctor can recommend a food source, water source, or dietary supplements which can reduce up to 60% of tooth decay.
  • ADA recommends systemic fluoride be discontinued at 16 years of age.

In spite of Fluoride treatment, it is important to brush twice a day, floss regularly and reduce high carbs and sugars to avoid tooth decay.
